Sachin Tendulkar pledges to ‘Switch Off’ For Earth Hour 2012

As WWF-India announces the 4th year of Earth Hour in India, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has joined hands with WWF-India and has pledged his support to Earth Hour – WWF’s global campaign to raise awareness and inspire individual action towards a better environment. As someone who inspires billions across India, the much loved sports star will be the face of Earth Hour 2012, encouraging individuals, organisations, institutions and groups, to be a part of the largest global environmental movement in history. The big switch off will be observed on 31st March 2012.
Supporting the cause, Sachin Tendulkar expressed, “It is heartening to see how a single action of switching off lights for Earth Hour can bring the world together to pledge action towards a better environment. I am happy to be a part of this movement and encourage others to participate as well. Last year, Earth Hour reached out to over a billion people with a little over 6 million Indians participating in this global show of support.
This year, Earth Hour India aims to inspire citizens to take action for cities by switching off lights to make their city the Earth Hour Champion. The concept is simple: whichever city receives maximum participation from its citizens, organisations, institutions and government will be declared the Earth Hour Champion. That city will set an example of exemplary achievement and the power of individual action behind a common cause. While six mega cities- Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore participating in the race to become the Earth Hour Champion, WWF-India encourages participation from other Indian cities as well. To mobilise people to be a part of this initiative, WWF-India will also partner with other icons and public figures across the country.

Kohli, Gambhir makes centuries

Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir both hit their 10th one-day centuries to help India post a challenging 304-3 against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup tournament in Dhaka on Tuesday

Kohli scored a solid 120-ball 108 and left-handed opener Gambhir a 118-ball 100, the pair adding 205 runs for the second wicket after India had been put in to bat in the day-night match.
It was Kohli's second successive hundred against Sri Lanka, having made an umbeaten 133 at Hobart in a recent triangular one-day series in Australia.
India plundered 78 runs off the last 7.1 overs, with skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni smashing a 26-ball 46 not out and Suresh Raina an unbeaten 30 off just 17 balls.

Rahul Dravid Happy send off.flv

Rahul Dravid retirement from international cricket was announced at his home ground, the Chinnaswamy Stadium, in a function room filled with more than 200 people. Family, team-mates, friends, KSCA members, officials and journalists had gathered - as did fans watching a live broadcast on national television - to mark the end of a remarkable career and a "reassuring presence" in the Indian team. Dravid, the second-highest run-getter in the history of Test cricket, possibly the last of India's classical Test batsmen, was a cricketer who successfully straddled the old school with the new age, becoming a pivotal figure in the growth of India's Test team in the 21st century.

gayle not selected for another time

Former West Indies captain Chris Gayle has been left out of their preliminary squad for the limited overs series against Australia in the Caribbean as the Jamaican’s row with the regional cricket board rumbles on.
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) plans to meet Jamaica’s Prime Minister to discuss the damaging dispute which has resulted in strong criticism from fans, media and politicians in the Caribbean island over the treatment of Gayle.
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) on Thursday named a 30-man squad to attend fitness testing ahead of the series which begins on March 16 in St. Vincent with the first of five one-day internationals.

West Indies Cricketer Dies In An Accident in Trinidad

West Indies batsman Runako Morton died in an accident 5th march. His car crashed into the power pole while he was on the way back from a match in Trinidad. Runako was only 33.
Runako Morton hailed from a tiny Island of Nevis and played most of domestic cricket for Leeward Islands before he moved to Trinidad and Tobago after 2009-10 season.
Morton made is his debut for West Indies in 2002 in a one-day match against Pakistan in Sharjah. He played is first test match in 2005 against Sri Lanka in 2005. Morton was often out of the team for disciplinary reasons. In 56 one-day matches he scored 1519 runs. In Test matches he remained an under-achiever and played only  15tests scoring 573 runs. Runako scored two centuries in one-day matches but both didn’t result in a win for West Indies. His match-winning knock of 90 against Australia in Champions Trophy 2006 was most memorable.
The sudden passing away of Runako led to an outpouring of grief from his teammates. The cricket fraternity was shocked by his sudden demise. Julian Hunte, the president of the West Indies Cricket Board, said "Runako's passing, still in the prime of life, leaves us all in shock".
The only thing more disappointing in sport than unfulfilled potential is a career cut short by a fatal tragedy.
